PostSubject: Car Salesman to recommend from Sime Darby? Is 5008 a reliable car to own? Any issues with it?   Mon Aug 25, 2014 8:23 am

Dear all, Ive shortlisted 5008 as a potential mpv to buy. I like it for its brand, heads up display etc ( Im a total car noob). Is it a reliable car to buy? And any car salesperson to recommend? I went to the showroom and met with a nose in the air guy ( probably coz not dressed like a person with the ability to buy a peugeot). Am keen to go down meet up with a salesperson to test drive and find out more about the car. Thanks!

I do not own a 5008, however, I used to have a 406 and now driving a 407 and my wife a 508sw. Including the 508sw, it is my fourth Peugeot/Citroen I own/owned. I have not come across any major issue. Others might have different comments. I like French cars as it is not as hard as a German and it is definitely more solid than a Jap car.

The sales person at AF I have is quite good. I have no problem with her. If you need more details, please let me know.

Hi there

I recently booked my 5008 and shd be getting the ride in sep (according to SA better keep my finger crosses Smile )

My SA used to be responsive and professional esp leading to the purchase but after that kind of less responsive. I will give it 6.5/10.

Yes I notice the other SA not as professional and as friendly maybe it's peugeot style

Pm me if you wish to get his details

Hi Zanie...

Wish to change to a conti mpv, I've considered opel zafira, renault grand scenic, but peugeot jus has the edge. Haha I'm more towards aesthetics, so the lions den gave a more posh look.

Renault felt a bit mass market, opel looks good but the 3rd row seems smaller compared to 5008.

Just like you, I hope to get my expectation right abt the maintenance issue Smile

Hi Zanie,

I'm driving the 5008. now my 5008 already 2 year old Very Happy

this car don't have major issue, very comfort drive, noise insulation also good, very flexible sit arrangement, reasonable sound system with Bluetooth.

but this car have small issue, you will hear some  rubbing sound due to the individual sit when the car is new. can be resolve it by applying some lubricant. and the sensor always spoilt. I at lease experience 4~5 in this 2 years. and don't expecting loan car/ replacement car during the repair, they always say run out of the replacement car.

the servicing fee is high, average servicing fee for me is $600+.

hope this inform will help

cheers.

Have been driving for 2 weeks so far, enjoy the ride esp to desaru over the weekends

Although the pickup is slow and gear change evident, the smooth ride at 80-120 is a breeze. Not to mention this is a real head-turner Very Happy

Hi hksit, is $600+ for normal servicing , any change of parts... Is it at AF or outside workshop

Thanks

Expensive for just a normal service of changing oil and filter (oil, air and cabin) but if it includes brakes front and rear, disc rotor changed or other repairs, then it is not expensive.

Hi hksit,

U can change brake pad at other workshops. No need to change at AF. Battery or wiper blade also can. This will save a lot of money

Is your mileage high? Because french cars parts spoil much faster than Japanese car. Around 70K onwards, you will see some parts needs replacement, unlike Japanese car which will double that mileage.

So tell us what you have encountered? Then maybe we can also share with you if those are normal wear and tear for Pugs.

As for the temperature sensors/thermostat problem. Take it as a feature of this engine. Anyway, even you don't change them, they are also ok. Just not correct to see temperature gauge going up and down.

I also noticed some owners who are used to these "troubles", will take it as a norm. So they will say no problem, because it is not a problem. A matter of expectation.

hahaha...my car has got problem immediately receiving the vehicle...the courtesy light were wrongly wired thus..not able to switch on.

a few weeks later, reverse sensor cable came off.

Driven less than 10K, turbo problem...can still drive but whole car vibrate and I need to use Tiptronic to drive. (Semi auto) 1st gear to 2nd gear will move after 8 secs or more.. everytime, during traffic light turns green, a more than 10 year old van can pickup faster than my 5008.

As for the temperature sensor, I have ignore the light and continue to drive, but after a while, my whole car jerk and stop halfway. I need to switch off the engine and start again. This will help to "Wake up" the sensor and I can drive normally. Else, car will not move or move very slowly. For your info, this problem occur when is below 50K of driving.

I have sent in the vehicle more than 5 times. Lost count. Everytime, I need to "beg" for a courtesy car as I am in service line and will need to visit 5 to 7 customers per day.

2 weeks ago, this turbo issue problem again and my mileage is 75K now.

In all honesty, French cars are not for people who needs to travel a lot and cant take down time due to job especially.

It is like chosen the wrong tool for the job. We are all "suffering" like you. But many like it because can learn many things. When my wife goes for foot reflexology, she will ask the person to press hard, then it is pain but enjoy....So I immediately think of our Pug. A pain to own but soemhow also enjoy Laughing

I think if you are going back to Japanese car, you have to do it very soon before warranty expire. Once warranty runs out, the dealers outside will be scare and offer you a price that makes you faint.

Some car are a little lemon as compared to others. Hope Auto France would had rectify all the teething problems. Do note that from 80,000kms onwards, many parts are due for change. Basically the wave of major repairs according to those who had past this mileage.

I am afraid you cannot accept the repairs in time to come. Your current problems FOC repair you already can't take it. The next wave are those high pressure pump, injectors, coil, timing chain wear and turbocharger related probelms. The invoice will be 1.5K above .
