Hi all,

baby on the way so getting a 2nd 'cat' for the family duties and something easier for the lady of the house to handle. current ride is a British 'cat'.

Peugeot 3008 1.6 TD crossover. split tailgate, large boot, relative smaller footprint/size for parking etc.

Leasing it for 5yrs as the family bus. decided against buying as i really want it to be a hassle free arrangement for the wife to use.

so if any issue its the leasing company's headache and they will provide replacement when the leased car needs to be serviced, maintained, etc etc.
fully covered comprehensive insurance, road tax, wear and tear tyre, brakes etc etc.

That is one of the ways to get around the high downpayment but the monthly lease amount would likely double the running cost as the leasing company have to make some money .

high downpayment was not the big hurdle.. was more concern about running cost beyond 3rd yr warranty and the hassle of offloading the vehicle after 5yrs.

we all like to think our rides are worth 50% after 5yrs but the truth hurts.

It all depends on the monthly lease amount. If it is $3K then per year is $36K, hence 5 years you would have paid $180K and the car is still theirs.

All in i am paying approx 70% of the car price + running costs over 5yrs.
a slight premium for the less headache of maintaining it and worst part of trying to sell it after 5yrs.

definitely way below 3k.. unfortunately...in house leasing arm by Sime Darby is not great.. i used an external leasing company.

Well I reckon the 5th year selling price will be no less than $50K because COE is now $70K plus, so scrap value of remaining COE, ARF a little plus car body , $50K should be min.

If if you buy car today at say $130K, you lose $80K divided by 60 months = $1333/month
While road tax and insurance is about $200 a month, so total say $1600 a month with no fear of 5th year throw car away to scrap yard mindset

Close. Also let's not forget the wear and tear items for 5yrs like brake pads, tyre, wipers etc. also add in the factor for final 2yrs after warranty the leasing company will still cover me still for inspections and servicing.

Also good is the comprehensive insurance where car is all handled by AF and only original parts. Not our regular market rate ones.

Did some quickie addition and the monthly came to just below 1.8k a month.

I am getting at 2k per month. after considering car loan interest contra etc.

So yes the figures do indicate a margin of profit by the leasing firm for sure.

2K a month is certainly worth leasing but any upfront payment or other clauses???

Because at $2K a month, the margins are low and Sime Darby group are known to be having big appetite.

Not necessarily, 2K a month could provide them with a fairly substantial margin.

2K with unlimited mileage is surely a good deal, provided that the real mileage driven is worth the while.

Heard from a friend this morning at Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4L 170bhp DSG is also leasing for $1599 on a 5 year lease, unlimited mileage. Seems a worth while to lease at these prices.

Hi all,

I just got my 3008 on 20th Nov. Nice drive and I feel safer with this car.

BTW, does any of you have the nice "ding dong" sound when you drive? I just cannot figure out where this sound comes from and what does it mean... it comes once in awhile. Asked agent he also doesnt know.

Did you agent give you free DABONDA Blackbox Camera? Wanna configure it but don't know how. The manual is useless and website is in korean language.

: )

For the camera, go google. You should be able to download the official english firmware.
Not sure if this is the brand

The ding dong is coming out from the Dabonda video cam and you will notice it when your car come across some hump and the jerk will trigger it.
