PostSubject: 206cc catalytic converter problem   Sat Dec 28, 2013 12:32 pm

Hello all, I am new to this forum.

I have a 206cc and I need to replace the catalytic converter. Anyone knows where or how I can get a second hand spare part to reduce costs?

Thanks so much!  smile2

Cat convertor seldom spoil. Better checked carefully.

You will get a sour smell from exhaust if Cat is spoil. Do you smell it? It is very obvious

It is definitely choked. Car cannot even be driven, engine dies after starting up. It is rather expensive to buy a new converter so I'm looking for options now Sad

How was it concluded that it is the cat converter?

Where did you diagnose it?

What is the fault code (if any) detected?

Car dies immediately after starting up can be caused by several possible causes.

Cat convertor not easy to choke because the honeycomb holes inside is not so small. To test if it is choke, you can ask workshop to dismantle it and start engine (just noisy only). If still cannot start, then it is not Cat convertor choke.

Diagnosed at workshop, plugged into computer and it indicated that it's the cat converter. Also, it shows Anti Pollution Fault in the car when the vibration starts and the converter light always lights up.

Indicated that it is the cat converter?

There are also a few OBDII error codes that is related to the cat convertor and each comes along with different causes and rectifications.

What is the specific error code?

The converter light I think you are referring the Check Engine Light. This is just a generic light to indicate that there is a fault code detected by the ECU. The fault code needs to be scanned to determine what is the cause then we can talk about rectification.

I doubt its the cat. could be quite a few faults thus engine auto shutdown? or could be your sensors are dirty, and blocked...may need to replace sensors.....
anti pollution could be turbo spoil too, if yours is turbo...

which workshop you went to?

Not sure which workshop you go to.

If you need a 2nd opinion, can check out Thomas or ANTZ.

Hi Anja22,

How old is your ride?
I removed my Cat Converter from my 206 1.6M when it was 3 years old.
Now he is 7 still live happy at Shanghai with my friend.

My Mazda 3 1.6A Cat Converter was removed when he was 6, and he just retired Today.

I just collected a used 308 1.6A Turbo (2.5 years old), very icthy to remove it too...

Beware of CEL due to O2 sensor fault code. We have a downpipe available.

Aftermarket downpipe usually supplied with race Cat.

Yes. From those that we found so far, you can also opt for without the race cat.

But you will have to settle the CEL if that is the case.

Those who opt for without Race Cats are used for competition only. For road use there is no way we can do away the Cat and the lambda sensors. Unless we throw away the factory ECU and install those Autronic or Motec aftermarket ECU. Tuning will be hell.
