Let me share abt the extra cost that I have spend since collecting this baby. Quick check with AF show previous owner change quite some stuff last year which is good

1. Tyres - it is pretty used up and spend 400+ to change all four falken ziex 912 at Soh brothers@ amk

2. Servicing - the car is due for lub oil change and I don't want to wait few days for appt at AF so went to Thomas&Partners and spend $1300 on worn out brakes, change all kind of oils - the one that I can't believe was the $80 wipers which I can't find elsewhere (yet)

3. Aircon - this is the most painful part. All was fine the first week, then notice the outlets in middle not that strong and engine temp goes above 100C after a while. Then bits of sponge blew out from outlets. Last week, there is no cold air and after charging gas, it only last a while. Decide to send car to tomika@ubi ( after some asking around) yesterday, they say coil leak and need to dismantle the panels and cost $910(inc GST) . I thot I could only get it tom and surprising they got it done today! Actually they drove the car to the bukit merah workshop to do it as the ubi workshop cannot cope, too many cars to handle. In this aspect, I presume if any one wants to go tomika, pls go bt merah. There is another place in woodlands called mark cool which actually gave a quote abt $30 cheaper but what the heck, weather simply too hot Liao. A few other WS quoted me >1k so I think I did not get too bad deal - I suspect all quoting higher price because it is 307cc, sigh! Anyway, engine temp is good now and aircon is solved.

That sums up the extras, the next worry I have is the gearbox, hope smooth sailing henceforth.

maybe "worry" is the wrong word to use... Gearbox is the one that i will watch out for - I hope to learn any tell-tale signs of tips to "maintain"/"sayang" the gearbox.

I am a strong believer of "lessons learnt" as in learning from others' mistakes/experience as such my sharing of my experience is for everyone's reference.

I am indeed enjoying the power of a 2.0L small car with the occasional roofless experience!

On the topic of Gearbox, try not to shift from "D" to "R" when the car is still moving. Or shift to "P" when car is not fully halt.

I have also come across this situation when it comes to ATF change. If the previous owner did not change ATF for long time and transmission is running smooth, don't touch it. I did across a few cases where change fresh ATF, trouble comes. The rational is the fresh ATF dislodge some old particles and choke the the system. affraid

Oh shit!

I did the opposite, I change the ATF during my visit to Thomas with the impression to clear any potential old particles inside.

Fingers crossed Smile

Well, perhaps the previous owner did change ATF especially if it was serviced in AF. Otherwise check with AF when was the last ATF. If once every 2 years then quite OK.

The story I mentioned happened to 2 friends that had brought their used car to change ATF. The rest (and most of the time) no issue. Just a word of caution. tongue
