haha your friends that told you to never get a pug prolly have never owned one in the first place. as with all cars each car will have its fair share of issues here and there, just need to give it the TLC it deserves and it should serve you just fine.. of cos, they say that our cars being frenchies tend to be a bit more temperamental than most, but that's just a quirk of the car isnt it? haha

Yeah the 207 just felt comfortable when I test drove utility only gripe is that I realise it is a manual transmission auto. Dunno the serviceability if that gearbox though

what do u mean by manual transmission auto? do u mean a automatic gearbox with a manual override? i believe the 207 u test drove should have the AL4 gearbox, other bros here who have experience with it can prolly advise you better!

Ok when I drive . The car don't creep forward when idling like automatics... it seems like it is at neutral.
When stepping on gas it change up like a manual. So I went online research and realise that it is a manual transmission but a computer that shift its gear for you... so sounds like Alfa to me with its paddle shifters. Abduction I read Alfa have a lot of computer issues. But at the same time review states that 207 is a nice car to drive so I am bait confused.

Thus I need pug owners advice if I should be worried about its gearbox and servicing

I don't own a 207 but I do like French cars. Currently, owning a Citroen C4 & Pug 508SW. Previously owned a Pug 206 & 307SW for 5 years each.
Like Bro B772ER mentioned, every car has its idiosyncrasies. My pugs have unidentified rattles that come and go but never much issues apart from wear and tear. 206 & 307SW have seen over 140000km each in their service with me. They have sent as far as Hatyat in Thailand and the highlands in Malaysia. They have never had to be towed to workshop.

Bottom line: TLC -> on time maintenance regime

Back to 207 1.4, I believe it has the same 2-tronic automatic gearbox as the 1007. It has the maual gearbox but computerised clutching and declutching. This is less problematic than the AL4 gearbox in 206, 307 & C4 if not maintained well. It just requires some getting used to the gearchange timing similar to Alfa's Selespeed.

If buying preowned, do ensure the car has good servicing records and timely carried out.

Copen has Japanese reliability which most of us take it for granted. But when you enter into the world of French cars, you gain something (ride comfort) but be prepared to lose something (reliabilty).

As long as your mind is prepared then it is OK. Wallet too Smile

Personally, STA checks are only reliable for spotting poorly done major accident repairs. Among the providers, AAS is actually doing a far better job. $115 for members & $145 for non-members.

If possible, request for servicing records from seller.

Personally, I think IMHO, STA checks are a waste of time and money. I just bought a PUG 207 back in October and they failed to detect an engine oil leak, causing me some trouble and heartaches post sales.

PUG207 is a nice drive. I got the 1.6A version. 4 gears takes a whole to get used to thou. Gears tend to drag and ride tend to be a little jerky at slow start stop traffic.... Hovers in 2nd gear. Expect about 3000rpm when cruising on expressway at 100. I would prefer 5 gears.

Hi Mualup,

Your comments on these STA checks are absolutely spot on. These packages are designed to make profit for their company and help used car dealers. The technician knows nothing about the car and the usual grade is B.

BTW, Peugeot does not have a 5 speed GB. Either AL-4 (from ZF) or 6 speed (from Aisin). My last French car 2001 Citreon C5 Gearbox AL-4 died at 58000km when car was less than 3 years old. The agent at that time was Advanced automobile quoted me $13000 (yes thirteen thousand) for replacement since warranty only covers 1st owner (I was 2nd owner). Sad

Since then I avoided French cars until 2011 when my car sales friend go to join Auto France. It must be one flew over a Cuckoo's nest. crazy So I got the 508 with 6 speed toyota GB.

$13,000 is a lot of money! Did you sell off and buy a new car?
Ya I am really quite pissed off with STA. $120 and I don't think their technicians are proficient or professional. They probably just go through motions and award a B grade. Go to AA instead. The dealer would strongly recommend STA. If they insist, just walk away.

When driving my PUG, every time the Car jerks, I fear for my wallet heehee.
But it is a good ride. Responsive and accurate steering, low body roll at corners.

Yes agree that copen is quite a hardy haha. Love taking corners with it too. Only problem seats 2.

Just confirmed my first pug guys wish me luck that I gotten a good one not a lemon...

I also confirmed that it is a 2 tiptronic gearbox not a al-4. From the forum reckon that it is more reliable than al 4

Maulup can check with you if it's the same gearbox and any issues?

Hi Mualup,

I was super lucky in the case of Citroen C5 Gearbox. One day while I was in and out of their service centre I met their workshop manager who happens to be someone whom I know. He was very helpful and assisted to make a claim to France for a new gearbox as there was a French visiting engineer the following week.

It was approved and hence I got a free gearbox. But I got to wait one month for the stock to arrive.

However, Advanced Automobile also made me change the power hose which they claim to be seeping oil at $600. After that I quickly sell off the car.

The 2 tiptronic gearbox is a manual gearbox with auto clutch like those BMW SMG F1 shift. I think they are inherently jerky and clutch plates needs to change at 100,000km. The parts + labour could be 4 digit if done at AF.

Guys my dealer tried to pull a fast one on me insisting that I can only choose sta or vicom.
Ended up I booked aa on my own which is on available on the 10th shall wait for the report and see!
Fingers crossed for my pug report

Anyway I road lemon law seem like it protects dealer more than user.if report says ok u drive for awhile and problem surfaces lemon does not cover it!

Better to talk to CASE for advice.

I attended a talk on lemon law before.

There are still ways provided what you are fighting for is reasonable and justifiable.

Just a suggestion:

Save the inspection money because it will only say things like chassis dimensions within tolerance, so it is within specs....

Use the money for maintenance....ask the dealer permission to bring it to Peugoet specialist at AMK, Thomas and Partner #03-03. Make an appt with Thomas first. Pay him to look at the car and advise whatever that needs to replace.

This will be a better option. smile2

Yeah I already talked to dealer that after getting the car I will go for a service with Thomas to highlight and checks that is missed .

Reasons why I insist on aa inspection. Now when selling car dealer Havre a checklist to go through with buyer. If this includes gearbox fluid and coolant leakage things like that so they will go through visual check and the internal check by sta. For us buyer to acknowledge that the car is fine. This check can prove that prior to purchase everything is in working condition and problem is due to owner negligence or wear and tear.

Thus to protect me and dealer because I will never accept a report from his workshop he will never accept a report from my workshop thus I can only look at aa, sta and vicom. And my last sta record is really vague and forum bros shared that aa is good like wise from my research. 145 money well spent if any problem is found and resolve before it affect other parts of the car.

Thanks for all your advice bros. You guys are great help I already booked aa appointment have resolved with dealer.

Regards

If the squeaky sound occurs during opening closing or opening, a little spray of WD40 near the hinge will solve it. If do not want to dirty hands, just get the service guys to lubricate it during servicing.

My 2.5 mths old 508SW also starts having it for the driver door.
