Doesnt seem to be a problem but just a little weird it was designed that way.

I just gotten my ride (mileage about 400km) . I experience this as well. Did you check with AF , is it a defect? Any parts need to change?

I called up AF and they say that it could be power steering pump faulty. Not suppose to be behave this way.

I have been experiencing the power steering weirdness since day one and have highlighted to the SA on first servicing.
he tested and also experience the same and he check and tell me everything is ok. Nothing abnormal.

Hopefully its not the power steering pump fault. If yes, the technical team in AF is really not good......

Today I step on the accelerator abit harder , it is the first time that I exceed 100km/hr (mileage 450km). Previously I was travelling at an painful speed of 70 to 80km/hr.
Strange , the stiff spot seems to be non existence now or diminishing. Steering pump also need to run in?Will observe more

Maybe you try another SA?

Hi everyone, I am a new owner of the 508 SW. Can I check with those who experience stiffness in their steering at low speed, what is the problem?

Hi roger,
Understand that you went AF to fix the steering stiff spot issue. How was it? Did they change any parts?

I experience the same as well on my 508.

But lately the "symptom" is less apparent after I install voltage stabliser and some grounding. The stiff spot is still there though...

Just collected my car. Basically they found nothing wrong with the power steering pump. However, they updated the software and seriously, it did help. Not as bad as previously.

I can still feel some steering stiffness during move off but the stiffness has reduced by at least 80% compared to last time. This is tested during my hour long journey back to Tampines.

As for why you find that the symptoms is less apparent, maybe it's due the electric signals being regulated and ECU is very sensitive to these minute changes.

I guess Peugeot have to continue to fine tune the programming cause I believe this fault is most probably not a mechanical fault.

As for the rest of the issues I highlighted, it was all resolved with no questions asked. Even had my battery changed. Smile

Would say that it is quite a pleasant first time experience at AF, maybe i am plain lucky.

But I hope that they will continue this service attitude.

so far my experience with AF not that bad as well. I complaint about the brown coolant and they change it immediately for me. Hopefully I will not encounter overheating issue.

For the steering stiff spot, looks like I will need to get a firmware update from AF also.

I tend to believe that the VS makes our ECU able to decipher the signals better.... better audio and slightly better/decisive gear change etc

AF can do those small painless issues. Warranty claims on cheap stuff like Coolant or software updates which don't cause them much.

They will be sticky when the claims are of bigger amount. A few bros here encounter clutch slip (those manual 200bhp cars) at 30k to 35K mileage. AF says wear and tear, warranty good up to 20000km only. For those who had experience in manual clutch, they last a 100,000km even in high powered 4WD like Subaru Sti. If a few cars have such problems. this means design issue.

Their diagnostic "kung fu" is also not superb but if under warranty, no choice. Sad

Chetfui, after more stringent testing yesterday, it seems like the steering stiff spot is not as ideal as I thought. Yes, it did improve, but maybe not the 80% which I have written earlier. I would say it's probably 30% less stiffer, but it does eliminate my stiff spot between 10 to 20 km per hour.

Blue, does your steering suffer stiff spot at stationery as well?

Well, I don't seem to experience any stiff steering. In fact, I welcome you guys to come to test my car. Maybe I have it without knowing it (I hope not). Haha....

The level of Steering stiffness is really a matter of perception. But what we can conclude is that it happens to yours and mine ride. May we can test out our cars when there is a meet up?

What I know is that our malaysia 508 owner also face similar issue and it probably happens to later batch. I did not follow up on those thread on their resolution though

I intend to write a email to formally highlight this issue to AF. Hopefully they can bring this to Peugeot Global 's attention. Because it just don't feel right (though it is lesser now after my VS and grounding)

Let's compare notes among the 508 owners.

Depending on the stiffness of the side walls of the tires used and the tire pressure, if tires not inflated enough, one may also feel steering stiffness at very low speeds.

At least this is what I feel for current gti and previous cars.

No harm and cost checking this out since air is free.

Just for sharing.
