PostSubject: New owner of used 5008 1.6thp   Sat Apr 02, 2016 5:06 pm

Hi everyone! New to peugeot and googling around led me to this forum. I'm collecting a used 5008 1.6thp soon and would appreciate advices on the following:

- what grade engine oil to use for my 5yrs old 1.6thp? I've heard should be 5w30? 5w40 for better protection? How many litres?

- what ATF is recommended? Read from mycarforum that Toyota atf works? How many litres?

- what NGK iridium plugs (part no. please) can be used in this engine? I read that denso ixuh22 works but i prefer ngk thru my experience.

- anyone done cold air intake mod with those cone/mushroom filters? I see that the stock air box is directly above the engine and takes in all the heat, not goid for performance. This engine uses MAF or MAP sensor?

- does Scangauge2 obd2 work on this car?

- which e-throttle controller works on this car? I have a old d1spec but need to find adapter if it works.

Sorry for so many noob questions! Thanks in advance for your replies!

Stanley

Hi Stanley,

Welcome to the forum

I have a 508 and I believe we have the same engine, EP6CDT 1.6THP

For engine oil, according to the service booklet, the recommended oil is
Total Quartz INEO ECS 5w30 (meets PSA B71 2290)
or INEO FIRST 0w30 (meets PSA B71 2312)

There are other oils that also meet the above 2 standards.  Also, if you go back to AF, they are using Shell Helix Ultra 5w30 - I think this is different from the SHU that you can find in petrol station and elsewhere, which is 5w40.  Currently, I am on Liqui Moly 4300 5w30

Can't remember the exact quantity needed, maybe can check the service booklet.  For my previous oil change, when I brought my own oil 5L bottle, usually have more than half a litre leftover.

For ATF, is yours the 6 speed AT-6 gearbox?  If so, the gearbox oil should meet AW-1.  I don't think it is advisable to use Toyota.  The original gearbox oil is quite pricey according to AF and they charge ~$600 to change it.

The original plugs are by NGK.  Peugeot part no. is 5960G4 (NGK PLZKBR7A-G), these are platinum plugs.  The iridium plugs are NGK 95770 ILZKBR7B8DG.

The engine is using MAP sensor.

BTW, there is a recall going on, you might want to contact AF to find out more.

Hope the above helps and congrats and all the best for your new ride!!!

Tks mypug for your warm welcome and for the detailed answers!

Yes mine is 6 speed auto box.
I'm surprised to learn abt the ATF being so expensive. But I'm sure there must be alternatives outside of AD.

Edit: what recall is it about? I looked at AD Sg website but no info.

ATF change can do outside. One of the places is Thomas and Partners but they are using OEM oil. Another Peugeot specialist you can try is Antz automobile.

There is a series of recall for the following:
timing chain
pretensioner
timing chain guide and pad
water pump
coolant temperature sensor
electric coolant pump for turbo

There are a few others which I can't recall now.

All the recalls may not affect all the cars, probably depending on production dates/batches.

These are also not safety recalls so you might not be notified. One of the ways that AF handles these recalls is when you send in your car for servicing then they check against the recall list and carry out the recall job. Also, the recall job doesn't mean they will change the recall parts, instead they will check and change them if necessary. Necessary or not is defined by them. Might be worth asking them the criteria to decide necessary or not.

If you're going for the recall inspection, remember to open your bonnet together with the SA and have a look at your turbo intake pipe. Take a picture of it as well.

If SA not around to inspect with you at least take a picture of it with the time stamp to show that you turbo intake is in good condition at that time.

I did not do this and ended up have to fork up for a broken turbo intake.

When my friend got the recall, I told him about my suspicion that they damage my pipe when they open up to check some of the parts and so he did as I said.

SA was not available and so he took the picture showing a turbo pipe in good condition and guess what, they called him later to say that his turbo intake pipe    is damaged and need replacement.

When he confronted them with the picture, they now say will repair for him in good will.

If only I knew before hand and would have saved $255.

I called AF and was told my 5yr old 5008 has pending recall program for ECU reflash and water Pump replcament. Was advised doing them will take 3 days!

Wondering how you guys managed to be down without car for 3 days? I may end up renting a car cos kids need to go achool and wife and i needs to work.

i replaced my turbo coolant pump just last Friday. At first they also say it will take 2 days and cannot promise whether will return by Sat. From others' experience, I know that the actual work takes much shorter time and I told AF so.

On the day itself, the SA gave instruction for his mechanic to return my car asap and in the end, they "only" took 6+ hours. Hand in the car at 8am and collect around 230pm.

It seems like their standard reply is always 2 or 3 days when it comes to this recall thing. Reason being that they have to remove many parts to access to the actual part to be replaced and after that need to do software update and test drive etc etc and any contingencies and they just don't want to overpromise I believe. Can't really fault them after thinking about it a little more.

Would suggest that you gather some info from those who have had the same work done then talk to a SA to get a better feel on the actual time needed or a sort of a "best case scenario".

Also for my another recall job - replacedtiming chain pad, tensioner and water pump - it was done together with 70k servicing. The whole thing took one day.

Thanks for the advices!

One more thing i want to ask is the max boost on the 5008. Both my scangauge2 and Elm327 BT with Torque app shows my boost is maxing at 6psi / 0.4bar. This is much lower than the supposed 0.8bar max boost for the thp156.

Is scangauge's / elm327 boost reading accurate? I noticed elm327's reading of MAP is always double that of boost - ie. Boost = 6psi, MAP = 12psi. Would using the Sports button increase max boost?

Or could my turbo be end of life or leaking boost somewhere? I'm at 70k mileage now.

I found that my diverter valve rubber seal was torn when I was replacing it with the DV+ at around 75k mileage. Before replacement, I was experiencing hesitation during upshifts when accelerating.

My diverter valve is new so i should not be leaking boost...

Edit: today i accelerated harder and got 7psi, still much lower that 12psi that the turbo is capable of.
